stefanBoltzmann
Stefan-Boltzmann constant
Try it yourself:
Stefan–Boltzmann constant and thermal emission
stefanBoltzmann is the constant in the Stefan–Boltzmann law, which gives blackbody emitted power per area as proportional to the fourth power of absolute temperature.
Use
Estimate ideal radiative power with σT⁴, often adjusted by emissivity. Compare boltzmann and secondRadiation for related blackbody constants.
Caveats
Real surfaces are not perfect blackbodies. Temperature must be in kelvin and the fourth power matters; use pow with care and multiply for area and emissivity.
Use Stefan Boltzmann in a calculation
Enter stefanBoltzmann on a calculator line to see its built-in value, or place the name inside a longer expression. Keep any displayed unit attached when converting or combining physical quantities, and check that every other value uses a compatible dimension.
The example above is editable, so you can replace surrounding values and test the constant in your own formula. Browse all constants to compare related values and notation.
